The Regina lamp by Jorge Pensi at the 25 Editions of the National Design Awards exhibition

Until May 2, the Matadero Design Centre in Madrid will be hosting the exhibition España Diseña: 25 Ediciones de los Premios Nacionales de Diseño [Spain Designs: 25 Editions of the National Design Awards]. The show brings together over 100 iconic designs created by designers who have been presented the National Design Award over its 25-year history.

The collective, retrospective and chronological exhibition brings together a fine selection of physical pieces from the honourees, providing an insight into the work of both designers and companies. Of note among them is designer Jorge Pensi, honoured in 1997 for his contribution to design and to the innovation process. As an example of his work, the exhibition is showcasing the Regina table lamp, which the Basque company B.lux has been making since 1987 and which stands as a design icon. The Toledo chair, also recognised, and made by Amat-3 since 1988, is another Jorge Pensi design that is on display at Spain Designs.

At the exhibit, each designer is presenting their work personally by means of an audio track in which they explain their design process, and what it meant to win the National Design Award, the highest of its kind in Spain, which recognises companies and professionals who stand out for their exemplary work in the field of design.

B.lux manufactures contemporary lamps for home and public use, and has been active in the Basque Country since 1980.
